An Eclectic Post

Family politics kill me. Long Story Short. My brother is a big baby sometimes. Thanksgiving is being hosted in my sister's house and Christmas will be at his house. As for me and my spouse, we will be at my in law's. Why? Because I hate family politics.

My mother is coming down on December 4. I'm so excited and happy! And I just got her gift from Amazon that I ordered last week. And ...don't say anything...I got part of Lisy's gift...shhhhhh....dont tell her. lol Psych! lolol I swear I could just hear her inhale as if she'd gotten the biggest shock of her life. lol Did you honestly think I'd put your present up here? Really? Cause I wouldn't even tell you when I got it, which I don't have it yet btw. But don't worry there's still time and I could totally make it to the dollar store in time...lolol

Why I think college should be free. That way everyone could get an education and not have to work for a retail store. As you all know I started my part time job. I hate it. OMG. The only way to get hours in this place is to get ppl to sign up for their credit card. I got 1 person to sign up yesterday and since I also got them to buy the insurance I get an extra $3 in my check. woo hoo. Child, let me tell you that my feet are still hurting!! I had the idea to wear my new wedges! I wanted to break them in. Well after 8 hours in them, they broke ME! lol I swear I worked hard yesterday. I worked so hard that I have a new respect for people that work in retail. And I also have a disdain for them. I'M a snob. I truly am. I'm so grateful that I went to school and got an education because I am totally not meant for retail. I got another 2 weeks and then I'm going to quit. lol I just want my 31% discount and then I'm out! I hate CREDIT CARDS. Why? Because I'm a compulsive shopper. So the last thing that I need is more debt. So I don't think that they are going to like me very much! I'm not going to get the hours because I'm not aggressive that way. HOWEVER, I am a good sales person. I did manage to talk a few people into buying clothes that I'm sure they deserved. So I don't feel guilty about it. One lady even told the manager that if it weren't for me that they wouldn't have bought anything at all. However, none of that matters because they are looking for credit card apps. On my very first day I was expected to get 2 of them. Jeez Louise! Talk about pressure. And I realized that the manager gave me the bulk of the work! The other new hire got to look petty and walk around the store just folding stuff. I got all the stinking returns, the HUGE round table of panties fanned out like napkins, the shoes, stockings, lingerie and the discount section. I was ticked off. And then I had to vacuum the entire back section including the register. And then the mgr showed me how to properly hang the jeans. I did that, but she went into my section and saw one that wasn't put right and said "you STILL haven't learned". I was like that was like that already. How frigging hard is it to hang jeans? Give me a break. Then the other new hire scored the first cc app. And she came over and was like oh I am not trying to take over or tell you what to do....I cut her short. I said girl this is a part time job for me...just Christmas money. So I don't care. They could fire me and I wouldn't care. And walked away. To let her teeny bopper butt know that I went to school and got my degree. I'm there for holiday money not for a lifetime. Yeah I'm a snob. So what? I'm a snob, but I worked really hard and I did everything I was suppose to do!

Laundry. Tonite is laundry nite. I hate laundry nite. Cause I have alot of it. Maybe I can convince my husband to help me tomorrow. I just want to go to my Bible study and call it a night. Yeah that's what I'll do. I'll do the dreaded laundry tomorrow. Now to find clothes to wear! Tomorrow is jeans/sweater day. Cause I have nothing but dresses left that are clean and its too cold to put a dress on. So I'll go dressed down instead. lol

Wednesday. Im off on Wednesday. I have loads of plans! The first and most impoart is going to the meadowland fleamarket. I love a good fleamarket. It's open on Wednesdays from 9 to 3 and on Saturdays from 9 to 5. You can find stuff from the 20's up to the present day. I got a great Coach purse for $20 bucks! I called Lisy just to make her drool! lol Take a ride and go over there. You wont regret it. http://www.meadowlandsfleamarket.com/index.htm

Well I think I done rambled on enough. This should make all you blog fans happy! :) See you at the library or flea market! :)

We'll Meet Again--Mary Higgins Clark

This was a good and exciting read. I had read this book a few years back, but had forgotten about it. lol I read so many books that sometimes I forget. So with much anticipation I picked up the book and then a few pages in realized my happy blunder. Since it was a few years ago that I read it, I decided to give it another go ahead. And was very happily surprised that I had even forgotten who the true villain was! lol

Basically this book is about a woman who is accused and convicted of killing her husband. She was accused because she couldn't remember whether she did it or not. Can you believe that? I would lie through my teeth. Heck no your honor I loved this man so much that I'm going to die now that he's not here. (see the pun there?? lol)

Anyway, back to the book....Molly has to find a way to regain her memory quick fast and in a hurry or face having the past repeated. I'm not going to divulge who did what or even who the villain was. Let's just say that this book is a good example of the mantra that I live by.

Nancy's Mantra
Make sure you like who you bring to your house...cause she's the next one in your bed!

Anyway, Molly has a chance at second love, but she's too busy trying to regain her memories. And the author has some good characters who help draw the limelight away from Molly and direct it in a few different directions. It goes to prove that money can buy you comfort and every material item your heart desires, but it cannot buy you peace or love. I'd read it again. Maybe you should pick it up when you go to the library to pick up the other book (In the company of cheerful ladies). lol

In the Company of cheerful Ladies -- A Book

In the company of cheerful ladies
This is the second book to The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. It is written by Alexander McCall Smith. Both of these books detail the work of female private detectives in Botswana. The characters are likable and very funny. The lead detective is an overweight Botswanian who is called Precious. Her sidekick is Ms. Makutsi. They are both amateur detectives that use common sense and practicality to solve the cases that come across their desk. This time around mma Botswana (as she is referred to in the entire book) has married Mr JLB Matekoni, the successful mechanic in whose car repair shop she used to drop in and chat with. Mr. JLB Maketoni (as he is also referred to in the entire book) has 2 apprentices working in his garage. Charlie and another one, whose name escapes my memory. Mma Botswana has a nasty encounter with a stranger that broke into her home. Quick snapshot of this scene. Picture an old tinish house in the deserts of Africa. 1 level house (obviously) and picture an old style brass bed (without the fancy brass) very low to the ground. Anyway, mma Botswana has checked all the rooms and has decided that her suspicious mind is getting the best of her. So she decides to lay down on her bed and take a quick nap before the husband and kids come home. So she lays down and she hears a sound right by her window that sounds like an old dog howling or something. So she jumps up and checks the window looking towards the bushes. Seeing nothing she returns to the bed. That's when she heard the noise again and realized that it was coming not from outside her window but from underneath her BED! All of a sudden this guy leaps out and runs out the house partially naked because his pants got stuck on a coil from the mattress! She was literally crushing this guy to death! OMG. When I read that I busted out laughing. I could totally picture this scene in my head. And I'm sure that in years to come and senility sets in I will swear that I saw it in a movie, when in fact it is totally not a movie, but rather a good book. Anyway, the author paints such a graphic description of a slow moving and quaint life in Africa, that I found myself wish I had her life. The simplicity and lack of the RAT RACE was so enticing!! I first read the first novel a few years ago and on Monday found myself thinking about it. Well imagine my surprise when I went on Tuesday to the library (as I do every Tuesday) and saw the newest read! I was excited. I called Lisy just to talk about it. As I truly am a book enthusiast. lol

I found the author's web page and am including it here. In my humble opinion, I suggest you pick up both books and become familiar with his writings and fall in love with these simple, yet lovable characters. If you find yourself wanting to discuss the book, just drop us a line.

I personally DESPISE my space, so you will never catch me on it. However, my co-conspirator has created a my space page. So feel free to drop her a line if you want to.

Enjoy the good read! :)

UPDATE: I decided to poke around the website and realized that while "In the Company of Cheerful Ladies" is the second book, there are really 8 books in the series so far! I've got alot of reading to do!! How could I have missed all those other titles! I'm so happy because I thoroughly enjoy the writings of Mr. Smith and I now have another good reason to visit the library! Do yourself the favor and pick up one of these books!! You'll never regret it. :)

Embassy Suites

So I need sleep but instead I wanted to write on my blog! My friend’s daughter turned 8 and they gave her a slumber party at Embassy Suites in Parsippany. I took my cousin’s children—Richard Jr who is 10 years old and is Richard Sr’s child and Alexis who is 5 years old is Alex’s child. This was the first time I've ever been allowed to take Alexis by myself. Her mom is very overprotective. I was afraid that she was going to give me a hard time because well, she’s a little spoiled by her mommy. And since I’ve never had her over before, I was unsure what to expect. But Alexis turned out to be spectacular. She was an absolute doll and everyone loved her! The only thing I had trouble with was getting her to eat. She was unhappy with it all—and they had scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, fresh fruit, yogurt, jello, Danish, Froot Loops. She took a couple bites of everything but ate nothing. Now I know what a pain in the a@@ I must've been as a child. I have the reputation for being the worst eater in my family. I guess I now pass the torch to Alexis. Richard, was an absolute horror! OK I’m exaggerating. He lives with me and there are no other children in the house and he rarely gets to play with children. So he was sooooo hyper amongst the children. I guess he was just letting out all that pent-up energy. All in all, the kids had a good time. The adults needed naps. The hotel is spectacular. The breakfast was great. And although they had beautiful little samples of shampoos, conditioners, hand lotions, and nice plushy towels—what is that I couldn't resist?? That’s right all—the darn pen with the Embassy Suites logo. I told you all I had a problem. LOL

Reading Is Sexy

Come on everybody--repeat after me--"Where in the world is co-writer?" You see how she leaves us every weekend? I called her earlier and left a message to meet up by Target. I had to go buy a gift for my friend's daughter. We are having a slumber party tomorrow night. We are all staying at the Embassy Suites. Doesn't it sound special? I've never gone there and I've never had a slumber party. I was never allowed to sleep over anyone's house unless it was family. So this will be my first slumber party!! I'll tell you all about it!! Anyway, it's now four hours after I left her the message and she still hasn't called me. After I write this, I will call again. I worry about her! LOL I do.
So anyway, I made a my space page and guess what it's called??? My Tattered Pages! I know it was difficult to guess. And on my page, I say that reading is sexy! And it is!! At least I always thought so. And yea, some may think I'm a nerd but I really am just a proud bookworm.
When I was in high school, I wasn't as proud because it would've hurt my popularity!! LOL Seriously though, you all know it's true. If a girl liked to read, it was a good sign of intelligence and for whatever reason, the boys didn't want to hook-up with the smart girls. Now that I'm all grown up, I know why!!
Anyhow, I love books, pens, and purses/handbags. Not always in that order--it would depend on my mood and how much money I have to spend. LOL
I cannot go into a Walgreens or CVS and not glance by the school supplies section. Why? I have absolutely no idea. But I automatically gravitate there. I love pens in all colors and I love promotional pens. If I go into a business and they have a pen, I want one. It's one of my quirks.
I also cannot go into a mall without checking out their bookstore or drive by Route 3 in Clifton and not go into that huge Barnes & Noble store. It's beautiful. It has an escalator!!! And it's a book store. They have books and pens!! It's my heaven. LOL
I also have an addiction to purses. Yes, handbags. I love Coach bags followed by Gucci. I cannot, of course afford to buy a real one every week, so I resort to Canal Street knock-offs. And the occasional purse party. I have tons of them. And every time I am depressed, nothing perks me up more than a new purse, or a bright new pen, or a tattered old book.
Ok, so I am quirky. But isn't it sexy? Christmas is coming. You all know what to get me now.
Welcome again to My Tattered Pages!!

Family Drama & Misc Thoughts

FAMILY DRAMA
I get a frantic call from my brother. Where is Thanksgiving being held? It's not even Halloween and he's hounding me about next month. So I send an email over to my sister and sister in law. What ensues? Curve balls and asides about how I don't make the effort to meet with my family and so forth. So I had to defend myself in love. Cause I love my fams, but they are a bunch of nuts. Sometimes we're too particular and not everyone fits our standard "molds". So I had to put it out there that sometimes our inlawish family members wont be accepted in the family "molds". So to give my brother and me a break. We're torn. We love both sides equally, but they don't blend well. lol So let's see. Right now I guess it will be held in my sister's brand new house. As for me, I'm going to spend it with my hubs in his fam house or maybe with the church.

ALANON
I love my Wednesday night group. However yesterday I didn't want to go. Why? cause I wanted to do my laundry. However, I decided that for my recovery I had to make it my business to get over to the group. I'm glad I did. I admitted something that I never thought I would. And then I got tested on it after the group. I met up with one of the girls who was picking up her hubs and she talked me into joining the festivities. When I walked in I saw my hubs sitting alone outside the room getting ready to send me a text msg. He put this big smile and escorted me inside. He got me some food and a soda. We joined the girl who had talked me into coming and her husband. Then a few of the other guys got together and we had a blast!

FAMILY
I love my family so much. Even if they are a bunch of particular crazies. lol I still don't know where I'll spend the holidays but I know that I'll spend it with family. Whether my own family, my extended family or my new Church family. I'll keep you posted

RAINY DAYS
They are good for sleeping. So why am I at work? Oh yeah I know...so I could be able to afford an umbrella so I don't get wet on the way to work. lol

SHOPPING
I haven't been doing much of this lately. I guess its because my apartment is kinda on the small side. Or maybe its because I got no money. Or maybe its because my schedule is so hectic that I don't have time to do the things I want unless I take a vacation from work. lol

OK, Black Friday is around the corner. I want a cool camera for my birthday which is a few days before black Friday but so what. I could wait for the sale. lolol I'm going to go searching for the black Friday ads and see if i could come up with something cool. lol

LISY
OK OK so you got me. I didn't see the post yesterday. I was busy working. I didn't have a chance to go check out the blog. so sue me. yeesh! But come on its about time that you get on the ball. Don't you think??

And thank you for the gracious hostess bit. I appreciate it. I must treat you and your boo to a fancy sit down dinner soon. I'll make a nice salad and I'll make two entrees. Pork chops and some steak in salsa. lol That way I please you and your boo. lolol

You didn't tell me you won! How could you not tell me. You see how she's getting fellow blog readers. She has a bit of money and forgets about us poor people. Where's the love? lol Why didn't she buy me a present? That's what I want to know.

Girl, when I told your boo's boo*** that you had no wheels and you had to see him, the first words out his mouth was then give her the car. lol I was like alright. debate over. lol took all of 1 milisecond. lol

***(For those readers that are wondering about the boo's boo comment. All it means is that her fiancee and my husband are closer than 2 peas in a pod. They love one another as if they were lifelong brothers! So Lisy and I have an inside joke that they might be undercover lovers. lolol Cause they fight like 2 bitches too. They call the other's wife when they fight and complain about what they did. Then they call their own wives and complain. It's so funny. Then a few days later they are together like nothing ever happened. lol Bunch of weirdo's! lol)

Weekend
I have plans for this weekend. Saturday if things go well I'll go to the flea market at Giant's Stadium. If not, I'll go to the library and take out a few books and then I'll go home and relax. Sunday will be for Jesus and then after church I have to work. Yup. I start my new part time job on Sunday. Woo hoo. 31% discount here I come. lol

Well this is all for now. I'm busy at work. We're getting ready to send for my mother for the holidays. I'm so excited. I love my mother so much. I cant wait to see her!!

So where is my co-writer huh?

OK so the world is clamoring--where is the co-writer? Where is she hiding? It's a rainy day so maybe she decided to stay snuggled up next to her honey bear this morning. Could be. Let's speculate.
She could be holed up typing a memo or organizing her boss's life. Maybe she is out getting his low fat milk. He is very worried about his health I guess. Though I don't know why, being as he doesn't seem to have much of a life outside of work. Staying healthy to hide behind a desk all day. Arghh! You may as well be fluffy and happy! Drink whole milk you frog! LOL Inside joke. She can let you all in if she wants to.
OK so I just got a response from our friend. I emailed her earlier. Apparently, she's busy at work. Go figure!! And she has the nerve to tell me to go update my blog!! Has she read our blog for the past few days?? I think not! So you see how she is. She has these bursts of energy all the time and goes on and on like a big 'ole Energizer bunny. Sometimes you just want to pop her on the back and take out the batteries! LOL
But she has a lot on her plate lately. I tell her she needs to rest and leave people to their own problems, especially self-made problems. I'm sure we all do it at some point or another. When the people we love get themselves into jams and then think it is out birth given right to save their little "molasses." And you know, lately she has had to save a lot of "molasses" and it gets to be too much! Rest up girl. Do some work and come back to us. We miss you.

I PASSED INSPECTION!!

OK well in my last post I think I mentioned how I had my cousin bring my car to the window guy. By the way, this has nothing to do with anything, but what do you call that guy? I mean the guy that works on the engine/motor is a mechanic. Is there a better term for the guy who does windows? If anybody knows, tell me. For me, he's the window guy.
OK so Saturday, my cousin drops the car off and swears it'll be done by the time I return from A.C. He calls me while I'm there and tells me the window won't be in until Monday so I won't have my car until then. This must've been right after I had my pina colada because all I said was OK.
Well on my way home I started to stress because I absolutely had to go somewhere on Sunday and had no way to get there. I texted my friend (my blog co-writer) but she never got back to me that night. I had no idea if she got my message but I hadn't wanted to disturb her because I knew she was busy entertaining her pastor and his wife. She'd been planning that dinner all week!! So I finally called another friend who was going to give me a ride and later go and pick me up. I was able to go to bed somewhat relieved at about 1 am.
At about 8 am, my phone rings and it's her!!!! She said something to me about loaning me her car after church and coming to get me. Then she said go back to sleep, I'll call you later. I vaguely remember what she said because I was already asleep!!! I mumbled OK I think and rolled back to sleep. Then 5 minutes later at about 10 am (LOL) the phone rings again. It's her again and she's telling me she's on her way. My thoughts are scrambling to get together--where is she going? And then I caught on. Ohhhhhhh!!!
I hurry out of bed, brush my teeth, wipe here and there, wash my face, put hair in a scrunchy and fall into a pair of sweatpants. Before I go downstairs, I call my other friend and let her off the hook. It was going to be such a hassle for her but she would've done it anyway. She's great.
So I go down and there they are--all big annoying smiles --my friend and her hubby, who is lately just as bubbly as his wife! Normally, bubbliness is cute but I had not even had coffee yet. So I wasn't thinking that either one of them was very cute even though they were there to do ME a favor. LOL
I am soooooo NOT a morning person. My perfect job would start at about 11 am and end about 8 or 9pm or even later. I love to be up at night and sleep during the day like a vampire. LOL
OK so they took me all over Jersey City. I don't really remember what we did. I was half asleep. I think we stopped at a bakery. We went to their apartment and She started making breakfast. She is such a hostess.
So I left, did what I had to do, and came back about 4:30 pm. And then they really did kidnap me because I did not get home until 9 pm. She made dinner--eggplant Parmesan. Her hubby loves it and she will make it but not eat it. I never thought I liked it but I had to have a taste because it really just looked like lasagna. She put so much cheese on it. It was very good.
The next day I got up early because I had to take the bus and trains to work. But then I suddenly decided that I was physically exhausted. I went back to bed and slept until 11 am!!! It was great. My phone had not rang once. That never happens. God knew I needed rest. LOL
I call my cousin and ask if the car is ready. No it isn't he says but it should be by latest 2 pm! I call at 2 pm. It's not ready!!!! I start to stress. I NEED my car. The thought of public transportation is just too much for me to bear. LOL So I make him pick me up to take me to run some errands and tell him let's just go get the car. The window guy can call when he's ready to put the window in. We drive up to the place and my car is parked right out front with a brand new window!!!!!!!!!
So I took my car away and went to do my errands in my own car. I missed it. Yesterday I went to work and after work I went to get my tire fixed. I had been driving on my dummy tire for weeks!! Today was a late day at the NJ Inspection Center in Secaucus. I went and I thought all they had to do was look that I had put the new window in but nooooo. They put my car through a bunch of tests again. So I started to get nervous. What if something happened in the weeks since last time I was there? What if I fail again? What happens? I hated it. In school I was never really nervous for tests because I studied and I knew I'd be OK. But how do you study for inspection? Anyway, I was so happy when the guy put the new sticker on and he congratulated me. He should've congratulated the car!

My Atlantic City Trip

Hello everyone! It's Tuesday night and I thought I'd finally catch everyone up on my weekend. This past Saturday morning I took a bus trip with my aunt, my friend Marisol and her mom. We went to Atlantic City. I'm not much of a gambler. I usually go play a couple of $20's on either the nickel or penny machines. I always come home empty handed. I went because I promised my aunt that I would take her for her birthday. And Mari's job was organizing a trip so it was perfect. It also gave me time to leave my car at home so that my cousin can have the windshield put in for me. I failed inspection and have to go back before the end of the month!!

So on our way there, we all got to talking and my aunt and her mom were scolding us because apparently we don't gamble correctly. We are suppose to stick to a "hot" machine. By hot I don't mean the machine is better looking tan the rest. LOL No. We are suppose to touch the machine and feel it for warmth. The warmer the better. And if we want to win real money, we should get away from the penny and nickel machines.
So Mari and I decided to devise a gambling plan. We were going to play $20 on penny and nickel machines and then $20 on quarter and dollar machines. After tat, we would have a couple of drinks and go check out te boardwalk.
So after going from one machine to the next (becoming what Mari calls a "slot slut"), we finally found two quarter machines side by side. So we sat there. I was daydreaming (it was way too early for me still) and just kept pushing the "repeat bet" button. Mari likes to yank the slot and hear the tinker tanker of her bangle bracelets. LOL Suddenly, I start pushing the button and my machine is stuck! It kept spinning and I wasn't doing anything. I said this to her and she looks over and as we figure out that my machine was going into some sort of bonus round, her machine starts making the same noise!! Nothing was wrong with the machine. We were winning!! As soon as all the noise stopped, we both hit the "cash out" button. Out comes this white ticket with a bar code and an amount. I won $110 and she won $145. Not bad!!! We immediately took our ticket to some ATM look-alike machine where we feed the ticket and it spits out our money!! We stopped the lady with the drink trays and had a pina colada each. It was very loaded by the way. Guess they think if you are drunk, you'll spend more.
Anyway, we ended up taking one of those little cart rides (basically you sit in a basket and some guy pushes you down the boardwalk) down to the fancy mall by Bally's. It was suppose to be an outlet mall but it's really just designer stores. We walked into the M*A*C makeup store and shopped our little hearts out.
When we finally met my aunt and her mom, they wanted to know how much we'd won and we proudly showed them our small plastic bags. They both just looked at us and then gave each other this knowing look. Guess we aren't as good at gambling as we are at shopping!

My First Post on Yahoo! Groups

Well for those of you that read my blog, then it will come as no surprise that my first entry on this group would be about Janet Evanovich. Janet is a pure genius. She has come up with a story line that always has me intrigued. Not only that but the cast of characters are so lovable that you find yourself wishing to be part of them. Janet's story is about a bungling bail recovery agent, aka a bounty hunter named Stephanie. Stephanie is your typical single woman still strung by a string to her mothers kitchen! She goes home to eat a few times a week. Stephanie has a grandmother that has lost 1/2 her marbles and thinks she is a teeny bopper/columbo/miami vice. Her father is the strong, quiet type who wishes his mother in law would be picked up by aliens or abducted by rodeo midgets! Her mother can cook up a storm and awake any coma patient with her culinary cuisines! When Steph's mother is upset she can iron till her hands shrivel up with all the steam!! Now Stephanie is in love with Joe Morelli, a Trenton cop who has a big shaggy orange dog named Bob. BUT as if her life wasn't complicated enough she's in LUST with Ranger. A fellow recovery agent. Life is grand no? lol She also has a penchant for having her cars blown up and being kidnapped or shot at. Her good friend and coworker is a retired hooker named Lula.Lula is 200 pounds and loves spandex and short skirts. Lula does the filing for the Plum Agency. Add all of this and a few other extended characters and villains and the stage is set for drama, excitement and you got yourself a heck of a funny story line. Do yourself a favor and wander over to www.evanovich.com You will never regret it. I'd love to hear from you if you are also an Evanovich lover. :)

Weekend Spree!

Well I had a fabulous weekend! I was busy busy busy!! I still don't believe that I did all that I did in such a short span of time. But God is good!!

I have a white kitchen and a white bathroom. Meaning everything is white, including the floors! Cabinets, fridge, etc. The only hint of color is my wood table, the counter top which is speckled grayish and some lovely yellow flowers that I put on top of the cabinets. Everything else is sparkling white. lol So this Saturday I got up early and cleaned like a maniac on speed! I scrubbed those lovely white cabinets and those hateful white floor tiles till they gleamed. I scoured that bathtub and walls and window sills till they were almost faded. lol Since I had some beautiful frames in a corner in the living room just sitting there, I decided to throw those up on the walls in the kitchen. Cause the white was just giving me a headache!! lol

I'll spare you the rest of the details, you know the running to the bakery, running to the dollar store, running to the hair salon to drop my sister off, running to my husband's friends house to lend a helping hand, then running home to start all the cooking and salad making and finish cleaning/organizing.

The dinner went just great. I served the salad (romaine lettuce, radicchio, mozzarella cheese, sliced ham, cucumbers, tomatoes), fresh french bread with butter. Then the main course was red beans, arroz con gandules, oven roasted chicken. Dessert was fresh cupcakes from the best bakery in town!

We had a lively conversation. The pastor and his wife bought us coffee. We gave them an abbreviated tour of the house. And then we sat down to chat. I love these people. And I thank God for them because they truly care. They also had a good rapport between them (my big word for the day). They just flowed so easily in conversation. There was no power struggle, no domineering on either part. But I guess that comes when you submit to the Lord Jesus. Also they have been married for 35 years! Now that's a real accomplishment in these days. My 6 1/2 years seems to pale by comparison, but then again it doesn't because in the day of online divorces 6 1/2 years is almost a lifetime. :)

On Sunday, we got up to go to church. And I had a great time. God just wanted to be worshipped and I was happy to oblige Him. :) After church we went to pick up the creator of this blog and we held her hostage for a bit in the morning. Then she took off to places unknown and when she returned we had a blast. I made eggplant Parmesan for the hubby. I won't touch it. I wont even taste it! lol I don't know why but I can't imagine myself tasting it. eek! gross! Anyway, Lisy and I had a great time talking. I always enjoy her company. She is so diversified and can carry herself almost regally in any atmosphere. Well maybe not in the purse section of any department store, but that's another blog topic altogether. lol

Sunday night was spent pretty peacefully. My hubby was listening to the oldies station. And I sat in the living room writing a letter to my pen pal Danny (my hubby's cousin), writing a few thank you notes, reading the Bible, reading my Al-anon devotional and reading thru my town's telephone directory. Yes I am such a book worm that I even love the phone book! lol

I have a few things to mail and I'm thinking that I should go to the post office and buy some stamps. I'm just so lazy to cross that highway. I hate it. lol Let's see. Well I think I've blogged enough. I'm trying to get enough entries on here so that I could send it out to my mother on a monthly basis. She just loves to read all these things. And well my mom is pretty wonderful and fabulous. So I love to give her little treats here and there. :)

Oh before I go, we got our very first book club member that's not a known friend. Woo hoo...we're expanding!! Yay!! Have a great read and tell us about it.

TO MY FANS....Ha!

I am not ignoring anybody! First of all, I was working, actually working because today is payday and I want to at least earn today's pay! LOL
I was also starting a my space so be sure to look us up and add us, of course "My Tattered Pages." As I speak we already have 7 friends on my space!! Not bad for a page created hours ago huh?
Well anyway my friend wants me to speed blog like she does but I cannot keep up with her because she is on super-speed all the time. I mean she is constantly on the move. Have you read her latest posts? I'm tired after all that! How could I possibly even attempt to keep up with her?
Anyhow we both finished Linwood Barclay's "No Time For Goodbye" on the same day but I think that's because she was so damn busy partying. This was my first Barclay book and let me just say that I LOVED IT!! The beginning is excellent. A 14 year old girl wakes up to find that her parents and brother are missing. She later gets married and has a child of her own. She has a lot of anxiety about the safety of her own child and rightfully so since she still has no idea what happened to her family. Anyway, I will not give away the ending but it was great although I must say there was one particular plot twist that was introduced at the very end (and I mean the last few pages) that I thought was totally unnecessary. The mystery and plot were great without it!
And I did not mean to make my friend not want to read "Two Little Girls in Blue" by Mary Higgins Clark but I have to admit it was not one of her best. It is about two twin girls who go missing for ransom. Getting the ransom paid was one of the issues but it gets done. Plot twist--only one twin gets returned. Then the mom thinks the other twin is actually still alive and sick somewhere because the returned twin can speak "twin talk" to her. People don't believe her at first but then they do and it's a race against time to find the missing twin who is very ill.
I think I like the idea of twin talk but these little girls seemed a bit too smart for having just turned three. It was OK but not great.
Right now I'm reading "Remember Me" by Sharon Sala. It's actually very good so far. I'm about a third of the way through.
Anyway, this will not be a long post because I have to leave work now but I may come post some more later. I'm very excited because I'm going to Atlantic City tomorrow. I hope I win something because I really could use the extra cash right about now. But $50 is my limit. For gambling that is. I want to go shopping too!! LOL
Well keep on tattering those pages!!! TTYL

We are being ignored!!

The Creator of this blog is ignoring us. She claims she is busy at work, but the truth of the matter is that she is trying to go out there and make Tattered Pages grow!

This is all fine and dandy, HOWEVER, we miss her posts. I miss them so much cause as you know there are only 2 of us blogging at the moment! So please do me a favor and write something on here woman! One day our fans will want to read your early writings and because you are so busy, there won't be anything for them to read!!

UPDATE: even tho I wrote this nasty review, our wonderful & ever forgiving creator has made me c0-moderator of the yahoo! groups Tattered Pages site. How cool is that? Isn't she awesome?!! But I still want you to update this blog! lol

Speed Blogging is not good!

Well in my need to speed and get out an entry for my clamoring fans, I made a boo boo. Lisy has pointed out (thank you very much) that my last post makes it look like I'm bummed cause the Pastor and his wife are coming to church. That is SO NOT the case. I'm pretty nervous actually. It's Friday and the house is upside down and I've yet to plan the menu! Anyway back to the business at hand, I'd like to state for the record that I am not bummed that they are coming, I am bummed that I cannot go to English town. HOWEVER, I would rather have the pastor come over and share with us a moment with God than go look at old stuff that isn't going to do my soul a bit of good. So with that said I will continue blogging about my wonderful life. :)

OK, so you know the Pastor & his wife are coming. I'm so excited! I have so much to do. I'm going to clean like a possessed hoover vacuum today! lol I need to buy some salad plates at the dollar store today. Cause who ever heard of having salad on a dinner plate? lolol I have to make sure that they are pretty plates, you know something fancy shmancy. Cause my china is totally white, so I need some happy plates for the salad! Alright, alright...its not REAL china. but so what. It did sound nice when I typed it out. lol And how would YOU know what it really is. I mean what guest would actually pick up their plate off the table and examine the bottom? As a matter of fact, they COULD be real china...I wouldn't know. My sister in law gave them to me.

Quick story. OK maybe not so quick, but its still a story! lol I invited my brother and his wife (Mika) to spend the weekend with me on my birthday last year. When I went to pick her up she had a housewarming gift for me. New plates and glasses. I was so touched by her generosity. I mean who does that anymore?? I was just glad they were spending the weekend. Anywhoooo, I had to run a quick errand and I let her in the apt with my brother. When I came back I saw the empty boxes but didn't pay much attention. Well the weekend was splendid! I spent time with my beautiful nieces and my family. After they left I had a chance to see what she bought me. beautiful white plates and her mother had given me beautiful glasses. I was so happy! I was so afraid I wouldn't like her taste, but I was very pleased with it. The plates had this design around the edges and it added a touch of class to it. Since I had classy plates I decided to tell her how I was afraid that they were going to be tacky and stuff. Cause hey, I'm classy too! lol God bless her soul, she just laughed at me. Probably thinking of class-less that comment truly was. lol

Back to our regularly scheduled topic.....Tomorrow morning I want to get up early and buy some fresh bread at the bakery and maybe some cookies. Not sure exactly what I want to serve for dessert. What do you think? I'm thinking a small cake maybe or some fresh cookies. I guess I'll decide at the bakery. lol

I'm really excited but I'm nervous too. Why? cause what if we BORE the pastor and his wife and then they never want to come back? I'm afraid. You know .... a bad case of the jitters. and then my husband doesn't make it any better cause when I asked if he thought about the nights menu he says and I quote...."I'll ask Paulie if he wants to come over and help make the rice"....I was crestfallen (yeah I know the word...surprised?)...anyway, I was so hurt. and I guess I didn't cover it up well enough and he tried to clean it up (bless his heart)...oh serve whatever. I don't know. There ya go ladies and germs...total support!! NOT!!

Whatever, I'm thinking of this:

Salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, mozzarella cheese)
Bread (with butter)

Pork chops
White Rice
Red beans (with real Puerto Rico sofrito)

Cookies/cake
Coffee

What do you think? Sound good?? I think so. I'm excited. I'll post more about my weekend next week. Keep me in your prayers.

BTW, since I finished the lights out book yesterday, I picked up We'll Meet Again by Mary Higgins Clark!

Oh and most importantly, did I tell you that Janet Evanovich has a new book out? OMG. They have an excerpt on her web page. I read it. I love her books. I'm so excited!! http://www.evanovich.com/ Please take a read. I guarantee you'll never regret it!!

Over run by books???

Well I finished reading "No Time for Goodbye" yesterday. I read the last few pages while walking in the middle of the street in this little block that's rarely used for oncoming traffic. It was just too good to be put down! I wont spoil the fun for you guys but suffice to say that this book is worth the trip to the library!

Anyway, as I was finished reading the last few lines. I said to myself....self, this is so worthy of being added to my collection. And then I thought to myself...self you are only 36 and you have (God willing) a lifetime ahead of you to collect books. If I keep adding books to my every growing collection, how long will it take till I'm overrun by the many books that I love?! So I decided NOT to buy this book! UNLESS I can find it at a flea market OR its a gift. lolol

BTW, is over run one word or two? well for the process of this blog, its going to be two words. lolol

I've been away for a few days. Busy with reading, partying and golfing has led me no time for blogging. But today I'm back. I'm going to delve a little into my activities this past weekend. I'm sure that you'll find them as interesting as I did.

Reading: OK you already know that I finished No Time for Goodbye, but did I tell you that I also read "No Humans Allowed". Another great read. I'm also NOT going to read Two Little Girls in Blue. I was on the fence about this one and Lisy has just pushed me over the fence to the NOT GONNA READ side. lol thanks Lisy, you saved me 2 days. I got a few other reads which I have to turn in on Tuesday, so I could use that time for something else that is fun!

Partying: oh my! It's been nonstop fun for me this weekend! On Saturday night I trekked it all the way up to my sisters house in Bergen County for her House Warming/Engagement party/Niece Birthday party. I had such a nice time. Her home is so lovely. I even threw on the dog! Yep! I put on some make up and heels for this occasion! My brother even said I was beautiful! It made my day/night. lol I do have to tell you that a few guests brought their own Tupperware and loaded up on food. How tacky!! At least I had the good taste to ask my sister for her own Tupperware! lol

Sunday afternoon was the church dinner! It was great. We went to Al & Lynette's house. It was so charming...the house & the dinner. They served chicken franchez (I know its not the right spelling but for the sake of sanity for my readers and myself, I'm going with the pronunciation), arroz con gandules, mash potatoes, pernil, veggies. They also had appetizers. Which consisted of crackers with a crab dip, and some other stuff. lol For desert I had some ice cream cake that had actual cake. It was too sweet and I was way too full. lol There was alot of different things, like strawberry & blueberry cheesecake, fruit salad, two different types of brownies and we brought vanilla/chocolate cake. All in all we had a great time. Our hostess is a very perky & nice woman, very talkative and upbeat always. Our host is more on the quiet side and is an excellent cook! We also had a chance to socialize. It was my first dinner with the church. And I loved it. :)

Miniature Golfing: yes I love the game now! My husband took me and I had a great time!! I have a new found respect for the real deal now. lol I sucked at it, but it was great to try something new with my hubby.

Oh and I got a part time job!! I start next week. I will be working at a plus size ladies clothing store and with my new 31% discount I will be racking up on clothes! I'm so excited. And the great part is that the store manager and I have so many things in common so far! I found all this out at the interview! which btw, was totally Jesus that got me the job. I went in to buy pantyhose and walked out with a job! lol My new manager and I share a love for eating (tho I display it way more than she does), reading and buying bed sheets! I'm so excited. They look like a fun group to work with. I see that they are hard working too. So I'll make a fine addition to their group. Stop by and see me sometime! :) I cant guarantee you a discount...but...I'll always be honest with you about your choice of clothing! You will never walk out of their looking ridiculous!

Oh I also had plans for this upcoming weekend but my husband put the kibosh on them! lol He surprised me and the pastor by inviting him & his wife for dinner! lol Child now you know that Jesus was the one behind all of this. He must have something to say to me! Let me tell you how the rain crept in and rained on my parade a full week ahead of its beginning! lol While sitting in church the pastor mentioned that their discipleship class was beginning on Saturday. Pastor Joe said I'll put the time for those that put the effort. So I said to myself....self, you should give the effort and reap the benefits!! So I made a mental note to be back in time for the class. Then my husband turns around and tells me that he invited them for dinner! That was the downpour to my flea market dreams! So this Saturday I'm going to be busy visiting the bakery for the dessert, the butcher for the fresh meat and the pastors house for the discipleship class. lol It's OK, there will always be more flea markets in my future (God willing).

It seems I've droned on for far too long. See what happens when I'm away for too long? lol I can just see you clamoring for my shorter posts. oh well, happy reading. It's good to know that I'm blogging for and with friends. Happy reading!

And we're off.....to read, that is!!

Hello all! I really did want to try to write a little something everyday but then where would I find the time to read?
Anyway, I just finished reading "Two Little Girls in Blue" by Mary Higgins Clark. She is one of my favorite authors. My friend hasn't read this yet so I won't give anything away just yet but let me just say tat I wasn't too impressed with this one. The who-dun-it part of it was to me, a little bit unbelievable. Usually, MHC gives you a sense of "why" people do things and you end up going "Oh!" This time I merely went "What?"
Anyhow so we finally did begin reading "No Time for Goodbye" by Linwood Barclay. I've never read anything by this author before. I am a quarter of the way through and so far, I can't wait to keep the pages turning!
A few minutes ago, I was on the phone with my friend and I have to say that we are both enjoying our book group! Even if it is just us two right now. LOL
We had a little conversation about what we think is going on. There is still very little to go on but I think we may get to enjoy ourselves. She is only about a chapter or so ahead of me but I can bet that by tomorrow night, she will be almost done with it. Well we'll be back soon discussing this book and whatever other things happen to fly into our brains at the time.

An Angel Watching Over Me & I Know Her Name

If you guys have already read my friend's latest post, I'm sure you can see how tremendously organized we both are. Actually, of the two I'd have to admit that she is your woman if you need filing done, organizing and even spring cleaning. But it's her own stuff that she can't seem to organize--so unlike moi! (Being soo sarcastic here!) I should've been born blonde! Sorry to all you blondes out there. It's a joke. You get my point though, don't you?
Anyway, this has nothing at all to do with a book either (told you we wanted to make friends too!) but something happened to me yesterday that I wanted to share with you all because it's not often in this day and age that we see the human spirit at its best instead of its worse.
I was out with friends yesterday and after running some errands, we made a stop at Dunkin Donuts on Route 440 in Jersey City. I put my two week old dark brown leather medium Coach Soho (a handbag for those who may not know what I'm talking about!) on the back of the chair. Anyway, we left the store and went to my friend's house to drop her, her husband and son off. That is precisely the moment panic hit me like a brick and I realized that I had left my purse at DD. I had never done this!! After books and pens, handbags are another one of my addictions. My handbag is always attached to me and I carry my life in it. So this is why I felt like my life was ending at that moment.
My friend quickly drove us back as I dialed 411 on my cell and got the number to the store. I called and told the woman who answered what I had done and she hurriedly put down with a loud clunk. She put the phone down kind of abruptly, which made my heart go into tachycardia because I thought she was putting me on hold!! After what seemed like 7 minutes but was really about 20 seconds, she came back on and told me my bag was still there and she would put it behind the counter for me.
As I clicked the end button on the phone, we pulled into the parking lot (my friend was really driving it!). I got out and went up to the counter with the biggest feeling of dread. I could hardly breathe, never mind speak. But somehow the words came out and I told the girl at the counter that I had just called because I left my purse at the store.
She immediately picked it up from behind the counter and said to me "This brown purse?" I think I must've shaken my head yes because she handed it to me. I took it and left the store with a quick thanks.
Once I got back into the car, my friends asked me "Is everything in it?"
I hadn't checked. I didn't want to disappoint myself. I've been having a few struggles lately and leaving my purse behind just felt to be the icing on the cake. I felt on the verge of tears but I opened my purse and searched. I had $60 that I had taken out earlier at the ATM. I didn't really care for the money though it's not like I can afford to give it away either. And whoever has had to replace credit cards will know what a pain that is. And think about my driver's license!!! Imagine trying to replace that at the DMV with absolutely no form of identification!!!!!
So I took a deep breath and I checked. IT WAS ALL THERE!!!
I was so relieved and grateful that I even got a chuckle out of the girl at the counter asking "This brown purse?" She had no idea what she was holding and how long I had coveted that purse before I finally bought it!! LOL I bought this "my first REAL Coach" at the outlet in Woodbury Commons about two weeks ago. Yes I got it for about 60% off but it was still an impulsive buy that I was feeling guilty about. But I've been having a terrible string of obstacles lately and I decided to go ahead and buy it because I friggin deserved it!! I work hard. Why shouldn't I have a real Coach? I should. Besides I was at the outlet. See?? I'm still feeling guilt.
Anyhow, I really did not get a chance to properly thank them at DD last night but I called today and I did. Because this morning I dumped the contents of my bag and realized that I had not mailed a $700 money order for a past due bill. And the money order was completely blank!!! Anybody could have cashed it. So you see?
I have an angel watching over me and I know her name is Gladys.

A post totally NOT about books

I don't have a credit card. So I was wowed and happy when the new debit cards came out and had the cc logo. Now I could shop at all the stores that accepted cc's. I've been doing this for years. Well I just got the shock of my life. I'm so sad because I have overdrawn my account. I've been with Citibank for 10 years and I have always heard of their shady practices but I chose to ignore it. Because hey...it's never happened to me. Until today. Lately I've noticed some weird stuff going on, but again I decided to ignore it. As I said until today. Citibank put out a new incentive to use your debit card as a credit card and you'd get all these rewards. Well since I don't normally carry cash I was even more thrilled!! I can get rewards for doing what I do on an everyday basis. So from that point on I ignored the debit feature. Well today I learned that when you use it as a credit card the merchant has 4 days to get the receipt over to the bank. So the bank "holds" the money and takes it out of your available balance. Cool right? This is what's called an "authorization." HOWEVER, if the 4 days pass by and the bank hasn't received the merchants hard copy request, the money is released BACK into your account and it shows up as AVAILABLE money. BUT the kicker is that the "authorization" still shows up on your screen. Now this is what happened to me. My merchant got lazy and I didn't keep accurate tabs on my account. I didn't look into my bank account over the "holiday" weekend. My merchant got lazy, the bank released the funds and then the merchant had a spurt of energy and ran to the bank. Well the bank took the money out and I got PENALIZED for being stupid enough not to know the difference between "authorizations -- credit card holds money until receipt comes in" and "POS" -- the debit feature where you punch in your code that automatically DEDUCTS the money from your account." Now mind you that in all the years I've used it as a cc not ONCE did this happen. I guess Citibank changed their policies on the amount of days the merchant has.

So I'm here to say beware everyone. Ignorance is NOT bliss. My ignorance is costing me $50.

Just when I thought I was out they pulled me back in!

Al Pacino's famous words in the Godfather part 3 movie!!

Ok so Lisy did ask me to put together a mini bio. And I did think about it but I figured I could post another day. But alas, since the book club whiz has posted her bio up, the least I (the co-book club whiz) could do is fill you in on my life.

Ok I was suppose to be named Kimberly. My mom wanted to call me Kimmy or Kim. But when they came to ask her what name she wanted to grace her new baby girl with, the only thoughts in her mind were of her best friend....and yes you guessed correctly (what are you a gosh darn Houdini?) her name was "Nancy". So here I am 36+ years later with this name which if you look the meaning up to means "Grace". Which if you are christian you know that GRACE is the most important thing in your walk with God. lol Grace means undeserved mercy.

Well I am married to the love of my life which I met in a very unconventional way. We met in July 98 and married in March 01. I have 4 step kids and 1 grandson. Yes you read correctly I have a grandson. He's adorable. A big 43 lb moose who is 3 feet and 2 inches and is only TWO years old. lol He's going to be a bruiser!

I am the oldest of 5 children. My parents reside in Puerto Rico. However, I was raised by my grandparents. It was the best possible gift God gave me. :) I've worked at the same company for 17 years. Thank the living God Jesus!

I'm a big book worm and I'm also a serious shop-a-holic!! lol But im trying to help my addiction. I also attend a weekly Bible study from Celebrate Recovery (http://www.celebraterecovery.com/) on Mondays. On Wednesday's I go to Al anon.

Now you might wonder why I put such personal business out on here a public blog. Well I put it out there so that others could see that there is NO SHAME in reaching out for help! Whether its you that has the problem or someone you love. Get help. You need it to stay sane and not kill yourself or the ones that promote such passionate emotions that you never dreamed you'd have come forth out of you. If you need help finding one close to you let me know and I'll try to help you out.

Anyway, I enjoy doing crafts with my hands. I've tried beading (made some cool stuff that my mom wears in PR), scrap booking (bought all the supplies but decided it was too much work, so I passed these on to mom), crocheting (finished my first scarf after trying for YEARS to do anything).

Well I don't want to take out the effect of mystery out of knowing me so I'll end it here. But if you are interested in knowing more about me, please just ask. I'm an open book...lol

The hostess with the mostest....

My peeps! How's it going? lol

Ok, now that you can tell I'm on a sugar rush I'll open this up with a bit more appropriateness for a book club blog...lol

Tattered Pages was birthed in the heart of my friend Lisy. She was inspired to join a book club and then being the good friend that she is, let me in on the ground floor of her fabulous idea. Tho to be honest I wish it would have been a money making idea instead, but hey beggars cant be choosey right? :)

In any case, I am a book worm. I love books so much. I remember as a child aspiring to fill up my book case. Which for the record was the top portion of a china closet my grandmother was getting rid of. lol I remember once wanting to have 500 books cause I thought it would be cool!! Yeah I know...but hey reading is fundamental.

I remember visiting the library when I was younger. It was just mostly a place to hangout after school and do a little homework. But mostly I just hung out. I remember the first book I read was by Judy Blume...I think it was called Forever. And the part that has clung unto me for years is the part where Michael stops the girl from putting cologne on his privates because it stings! lol All these years later and that's still my favorite part of the book. lolol Yeah I'm weird that way. I remember silly parts to books that I don't even remember the Titles to. lol

Anyway, to make a long story short, I moved and my husband has threatened to throw out anything new that I bring into the house that is already in existence. As I have a small book shelf already I decided to visit my old friend...the Library! FYI - while my book shelf is small it's literally filled with my favorite authors. My favorite all time author is Janet Evanovich (http://www.evanovich.com/) and Lawrence Sanders. I could go on and on about them but I won't...so you needn't worry that this post will be long and boring.....it will only be long. :)

Anyway, being the tried and true friend that she is, the Library welcomed me back. I now visit her on a weekly basis. Every Tuesday for those that are interested in meeting up with me. Since she's held no grudge against me for abandoning her all these years, I in turn have decided to grace her wide open halls and lovingly caress her shelves and table tops. Eventually relieving her of 7-8 books as I strut out her doors to my car.

I picked up eight...yes EIGHT books cause Lisy has banned me from reading No Time for Goodbye until she is ready. Which is really putting a cramp in my style cause I wanted to read it right away. So since she is the book club master, I have bowed to her wishes and I am reading No Humans Involved by Kelley Armstrong. Pretty good so far. But to show you how out of control I am about reading I had to keep the book club book in my car in the garage! Cause if it's in the house I know that I'll have a moment of weakness and will cave into its loving coos and woos. lol

Well I do wish more would join our book club, but if for the moment it's just Lisy and me, that's fine. We have enough hot air in us to keep the fires going all night and the next. lolol Please don't be shy. Jump in, post a comment, join the book club, meet me at the library. Whatever. We're here for the good reads, good friends and most importantly the good vibes we get from sharing.

Enjoy your day. Remember the library is no respecter of persons, it will never condemn you for abandoning her, but it will lovingly welcome you back into her magically filled halls and windows to other worlds.

Until we meet again my darlings.....

A Little About Me

OK since I decided to start this off with my friend and I'm hoping people will comment and get involved in our little blog here, I thought it would be a good idea to know a little bit about us. Nancy should be writing her mini-bio right now. I told her to leave all the x-rated stuff out!! LOL
Anyway, I was born in Jersey City at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital on June 26, 1971 and given the name Carmen Lizandra Colon. My birthplace is now the home of "The Beacon"--very high priced living that I cannot afford! Well that's ok. I'm not bitter (Can you tell?) LOL Ok my mom's name is Gladys Maria Vazquez and my dad's Luis Angel Colon. They were both born on the beautiful isla of Puerto Rico!! My father is from San Lorenzo but now resides in Rio Grande. My mother was born in Juana Diaz but grew up in nearby Villalba. She passed away on June 26, 1997. Yes, that was my 26th birthday. I didn't celebrate for a while because it didn't feel like I was suppose to. Then I realized that my mom adored me and would not have wanted me to stop having birthdays. So I do celebrate now but on the low-key style. I miss her terribly. I know everyone always says their mom was the best but mine really was!! LOL
Anyway, I was an only child. My dad and mom seperated when I was about 6. He wasn't that big a part of my life when I was growing up--he had issues he was dealing with (alcoholism). However, after my mom passed away, I have to say he has really stepped up to the plate. He calls me weekly and lately he's been calling me and having people play "Mi Nina Bonita," a song he dedicated to me when I was born. I still have the old "78" vinyl record. LOL Anyway, he has made amends and I love him dearly! He's my daddy.
Ok what else can I say? I went to high school at St. Mary's also in Jersey City. What's up Rams?? Then I went to the all-girls (ohhhh) college at Convent Station NJ called College of St. Elizabeth. They have since changed the address to Morristown NJ. Good thing too because they were probably scaring away prospective students who like me, thought they were going to be brainwashed to become nuns!! LOL Those were the best 4 years of my life thus far!! I will never forget them and all the friends I met there--some are for life!! (Shout out to Gina, Marisol, Kathy!!) I then took a year off. My mom was very ill at this time. We got through it and I decided to go to Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison NJ and get my Master's in Clinical Psychology. I made one very good friend while I was there but the last time I saw her was at my mom's funeral I think. Those days are fuzzy. Her name was Pamela Abel and she later married Scott Fuller. The last I heard she had been working at Clara Maass Hospital. I would love to get in touch with her again so if anybody knows Pam, let her know I'm here. I wasn't very social at FDU. I have to admit I felt like I did not belong there but I did manage to graduate in 1996 and have my mom attend the biggest graduation ever!! I have to admit that's the only reason I stayed in the program--that and the talk Dr. Potash had with me when I told him I was leaving. I'm glad he made me stay.
I worked at Hudson County Welfare from about 1996 through 1998. I really miss those people but the pay was downright rotten!! So that's why I came here. I now work for the state government doing some work with disability. I get paid better but I'm not enjoying myself much. My co-workers are great though!
I am not married and don't yet have any kids of my own (that is not to say I don't have a kid). My kid's name is Richard Maldonado Jr, my cousin's son. He's my little midget as I lovingly call him. He lives with me and I take good care of him. He's now in 5th grade. And just so everybody knows--I hate homework!!!!!!
So there you basically have it. Although most of my academic training has been in psychology, my true love has always been literature and writing. I'm still thinking about maybe one day pursuing a degree in Literature or Women's Studies. Then maybe I can go teach at CSE. I would soooo love that. But with a $60,000+ student loan still waiting to get paid, pursuing dreams may take a while. But here's to dreaming!!!

Welcome to My Tattered Pages

Welcome to my new book club blog!
My friend and I, just love to read and I decided to start a book club recently. You can look us up and join on BookMovement.com. Our book club's name is Tattered Pages.
It was from the Book Movement site that I got the idea to form my own book club because many authors run promotions and contests for book club members. Sometimes you can win free books or other materials for all your members and yourself of course! and what book lover doesn't like a free book in the mail? Way better than a bill. Besides, a book club is also a good excuse to have a Girls Night Out every so often. LOL
Set rules haven't been established. This will be a one day a time type of book club and we will have loads of changes as we go along. We will probably meet more online than not (so hopefully you have AOL) but an in-person or on-site meeting should happen at least every 6 weeks. We will meet and have dinner and discuss our current read. I know it sounds corny to some of you but we don't only have to discuss books. We can also discuss our daily life dramas! Anyway, it's a good way to read new books, and make new friends.

We live in the Jersey City area (New Jersey) so our meetings will be somewhat close but we will be open to other areas if a few people are into it. A few other friends have joined us already on Book Movement but I don't think they are bookworms like us. They joined to make us happy! That's what friendship is about right? We have some really good friends!!
Well we have already chosen our first read--it is No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay. I subscribe to "Booked For Breakfast," an email newsletter run by this very nice lady--Suzanne Beecher. I don't personally know Suzanne but she writes these columns and shares recipes and anecdotes with her readers (and prizes too!) so you feel like she's one of your friends. You can look her up on DearReader.com. Anyway, it's just a daily email of book excerpts. Every week she features a different book. You don't have to do anything. She doesn't push you to buy it or anything like that. You basically get to test-drive a book. I love that idea because I've spent A LOT of money on books that I never fully read.
The book we have chosen was a recent feature of Suzanne. I just picked it up from my local library yesterday. My co-conspirator was supposed to pick up her copy today. It's about a 14 year old girl who after coming home drunk has an argument with her parents (of course) and wakes up the next day and finds that her family have all left the house without her. She goes to school thinking that perhaps they were just angry at her. However, they never come home!! My friend will probably finish this book by Thursday but I have made her wait so we can start it together. If you want to pick it up and join us for a discussion, please do. I'm giving plenty of time to go out and buy, borrow or share this book so we can all discuss it. How about by November 15th?
Anyway, please feel free to join my book club at bookmovement.com, email me, or post a comment telling me about your latest good read. Happy reading!! Let's start tattering those pages!
